'Dots of the Wild'

A Dotwork Collection

MEET THE ARTIST:

My name is Lucy and I am a wildlife and pet portrait artist based in the UK. I have a background studying both animal biology and marine conservation and love creating artwork to celebrate the amazing biodiversity of our natural world.

One of my biggest artistic achievements is creating my first exhibition piece for the Shark Trust's Oceanic 31 art collection to raise awareness for the conservation of oceanic sharks and rays. I created a biro sketch of two Galapagos Sharks on top of a print of the Galapagos Islands. My little sharks toured around the UK to different aquariums and galleries and was eventually auctioned to raise funds for the Shark Trust's Big Shark Pledge campaign.

It brings me so much joy to see our resident pheasants out the window (as we are currently living on a farm) and I have gained a newfound love for them, they are just such characters and their feathers are just beautiful! I actually captured a photo of an even brighter pheasant the other day and I’m already excited to paint him too!

This gorgeous bird makes the latest addition to my ‘Dots of the Wild’ series, as soon as I seem to cross a species off the list I seem to come across another one I want to add 🤦‍♀️ but I will never get tired of these dotwork pieces they are so therapeutic and I just love creating them!

Did you know?
Although they are a common feature to the British countryside, pheasants are not actually native to Britain but were in fact introduced by the Romans!

Let me know which other birds you might like to see appear in this series and I will happily add them to my ever-growing list 👇

Red squirrels are one of my favourite animals and I’ve been very lucky to see them in the pine forests of Scotland on several occasions! I knew I just had to add them to my ‘Dots of the Wild’ series and it seemed fitting for this little squirrel to be my next autumnal piece. 🍂

Did you know?
In the autumn, squirrels stash away their food to help see them through the winter and they start to develop their long adorable ear tufts.

Which species should I add to my ‘Dots of the Wild’ series next?

These little harvest mice are making the most of the autumn harvest, I used to love blackberry picking when I was a child and helping Mum make them into a crumble 👩‍🍳 This idea has been on my list for a while and I thought it would be a fitting start to my autumnal pieces 🍁

I’m actually thinking of making my mouse paintings into a series so let me know in the comments if you have any ideas of what I should call it 👇

Here is one of my most recent commissions of little Angus who is actually my first cat acrylic painting! I’ve completed a couple of puppy paintings in the past but never a feline. I actually really enjoyed adding the layers to the fur it’s always the most satisfying part but trying to capture his eyes in particular was an exciting new challenge 😊

I did also paint his sister so keep your eyes peeled as I will be sharing her portrait very soon 👀 and if you want a bespoke portrait of your cat or your pup or even another pet then you can either send me an email or complete the form on my website (both are linked in my bio), my commissions are currently open!

P.S. This audio is my favourite song from ‘Cats’ the musical and thought it would make the perfect song to accompany Angus 🎶
